Injuries and lack of availability saw 20 players unavailable for 1st Xv selection this week. Despite this considerable testing of resources all players who stepped up made selection tougher going forward as many put in outstanding performances.
Despite conceding 3 late tries as the side relaxed it was the defence in the majority of the game that stifled a free running Wells team to keep the Fortress Failand unbeaten record intact.
The intent to run the ball was clear from the off. Receiving the kick off OB's proceeded to retain possession through 14 phases, moving the ball from their own 22 with great handling and offloading, fast ruck ball and great lines. This set up a breakdown in the Wells 22 in front of the posts for Jon Whiteman to crash over under the posts after three uninterrupted minutes of play. Try was converted by Matt Law.
After several flowing attacks where both debutant John Gorvett and Handsome/Angry Rob Davies got on the outside of the Wells defence OB's extended their lead with a Matt Law penalty.
Wells scored two unconverted tries before half time to turn around 10:10.
OB's were now playing down the slope and started with a bang. From the KO Andy Green retrieved the kick off and quick hands put Jamie Duncan though to score. Matt Law converted 17:10. Within 2 minutes OB'S scored again with a flowing move that led to new Second Row Matt Edgar crashing over, again Matt Law converted. 24:10.
Wells came back hard and whilst attacking in the OB's 22 Slammin Sam Davies intercepted. He raced away before giving a 20 metre pass to Justin Morton to dive over. 29:10.
With 10 minutes to go Jamie Duncan dummied his way over out on the left following continuous pressure and recycling. 34:10
Wells came back with 3 late tries and a conversion.
Sam Davies & Andy Green given joint man of the match with Doug Roberts getting an honourable mention.
