Narrow defeats for 1s and 3s

1st XV: OBs 17-24 Spartans

Saturday began with the welcome return of Hunty’s Heirachy of Needs, and many would say it was one of his best. I say many, but not all. Pikey protested that having never seen Uruguay play he would struggle to be ‘more Uruguay’ unless it involved biting people which although happy to do, he did not think it is what Hunty was hoping for.

Unfortunately this great start to the day was followed by hours of lashing rain and warnings of it being ‘blooming freezing’ at Failand, which got right into the classic OBs psyche and their notorious love of anything but balmy weather conditions, and even then it can be hit and miss.

Everyone having been warned about the conditions had dressed accordingly, wearing multiple base layers and waterproof jackets, we piled out of the changing rooms resembling an artic expedition and things were great.....for about 3mins. Then the clouds cleared and the sun came out. All those extra layers we hoped would protect us against the inclement conditions began to feel like our own personal roasting dishes. The type you wrap in foil to really keep the juices in.

Back in the changing room, following a swift de-layering, some rousing speeches were given and were swiftly forgotten. Warnings about not taking the opposition for granted and our sketchy record against bottom of the league went unheeded and predictably within 20 mins we found ourselves 3 tries down.

As you would have hoped this seemed to wake us up and things began to improve. What followed was a tense and cagey affair, so tense that some people couldn’t bare to see it unfold. Those that did would have been left frustrated at what was a great opportunity to get the win and a potential 5 points. Onwards and upwards is the saying and upwards is where we look for next week's opponents. On the plus side, our record against teams at the top of the league is far better than those that sit at the bottom.

Final Score: OBs 17-24 Spartans
Tries: Hunt (2); Higgs
Cons: Gall-o-way (2)
Pens: Gall-o-way (1)

Young Marcus does not know the key to good time-keeping, so there is no match report this week.

He joins the docket for court.
