1st XV: Cheltenham Tigers 44 - 12 OBs
It was a typical start to the season, with lots of handling errors from both sides but especially in the first half from ourselves. In particular, the Cheltenham winger who knocked it on four times… too many chest days perhaps?
Tigers managed to capitalize on our mistakes and make use of gaps we left in the field; at half time they had put 4 tries past us whilst we had maybe that many phases in total with ball in hand.
That being said, the second half showed a lot of improvements, although there were still errors and areas we could have taken advantage of more, we pulled together, defended well and got over the line twice, whilst leaving at least a further three out there on the field that would have kept us in the game.
Cheltenham was a tough first up opponent, but we did manage to drain them down towards the end, although it was too little too late. Plenty to work on at training this week.
Obviously must mention the injuries to Rory with a broken fib and George who sprained his ankle within 2 minutes; hopefully both have a speedy recovery.
We look forward to getting a first win on the board at Fortress Failand when we host Chipping Sodbury, followed by Pub Golf and the Battle for the Pink Cap.
