U16's make history with a win over Weston Hornets!

Old Bristolians beat Western Hornets 19-0 in a gritty contest that saw the wind offer both teams a definitive advantage in each half. Old Bristolians came into the game off an excellent run of form having beaten both Somerset champions Bath in the semi final and Gloucester Cup holders Spartans. However, the first half saw them playing into a strong headwind against a very determined Hornets team that tackled fiercely and competed aggressively at the breakdown. OBs took advantage of their powerful scrummaging base and line out to win solid first phase ball and probe the Hornets defences but both teams failed to register a point in the first half.

Old Bristolians started the second half with the wind in there backs and the OBS used this to take a territorial dominance and if not for the dogged defence of Hornets there may have been a number of line breeches it took a flat pass from OBS number 10 Bertie Scoble on the blind side of a ruck to release winger Alfie Light who beat to defenders to score in the corner 5 - 0 this is how it stayed with the conversion narrowly missing, sustained pressure from OBS saw Weston hornets give a penalty away just inside the OBS half and OBS number 10 Bertie Scoble decided to take a quick penalty and accelerated through the Weston defence bouncing one tackle and stepping and evading the pursuing Hornets defence to score in the same corner as the first try 10 - 0 except this time the he converted to take the score to 12 - 0. OBS seemed to sense the win and the forwards camped them selves in the right corner dragging in the Weston defence and allowing a quick ball from Scrum half Alex Williams to Bertie Scoble and then on to Dan Thurston who ran and dived for the line scoring under the posts 17 - 0 Scoble duly converted to secure the game at 19 - 0. In the conditions it was a great spectacle of the talent that abounds in Junior rugby in the Bristol region.
