Keynsham beaten in thrilling encounter on the 3G

Unfortunately we lacked a front row so had to go to uncontested scrums right from the kick-off. But right from the first minute, both sides showed a purpose and intensity that belied the wet and cold conditions.

Keynsham started the stronger and dominated the first half with what felt like 70% possession and 80% territory. However an immense defensive performance kept them scoreless, while our limited attack opportunities stuttered somewhat with a fair few handling errors when we managed to get some ball. We went in to half time 0-0 in what had actually been a massive first half.

The Colts came out in the second half with the two-fold intention of increasing the intensity even further and delivering faster ball to allow our fitness and speed to dictate the pace of the game away from the bigger and stronger Keynsham pack. Those tactics worked well with early 2 tries. To their credit, Keynsham hit back with 2 excellent tries of their own. But the Colts weathered the comeback then hit back again with a further brace to finish up 24-12 winners.

An outstanding performance by the whole squad - massive defence in the first half which lay the ground for our speed and fitness to make the difference in the second.
