OB's U14's progress to next round of the BJC
46-15 win seals comprehensive victory
We were pretty tight on numbers, with only the bare minimum 15 confirmed as available so we were very relived not to have any last minute drop-outs as we travelled to the unknown quantity of St Bernadette's, a team we have not played before.
After some juggling around in positions - this has got the be the first time we have ever had 5 front-rowers on the pitch at the same time, plus 2 forwards out in the backs - we started strongly with a series of probing runs from both forwards and backs, assisted by some quick and effective rucking, gradually making ground across 7 or 8 phases against the strong tackling, with Dom S popping up in support to score from 5m out (it'll be 55m tomorrow at school).
We continued to get more than our fair share of possession throughout the first half, with the main standout being the variety of play, mixing it up between tight and wide plays off both forwards and backs. We went in 22-5 up at half time with additional tries from Jago supporting well from Marcus's break from Scrum Half & Henry getting a brace via a wide arcing run to outpace the cover and a neat scissors off an outstanding flip pass 'out the back' from Adam taking out 3 defenders.
We started the second half in perfect fashion, with Lowell taking the kickoff then accelerating forward to burst through a numbers of tackles, then keep on going to outpace the cover and score under the posts - bring on the oxygen! However, St Bernadette's never gave up and started building their own possession with a well-executed and effective pick and drive game (which we struggled to contain) giving them 2 well-deserved tries. However they struggled to deal with our pace and we scored 3 further tries throughout the half; Jago showing a great turn of speed and neat sidestep to sprint in from half way, Abes finishing off a series of rucks to dive in round the blindside and Freddie taking the ball out on the wing and cutting back inside to score under the posts.
So, a well-worked win where the boys showed good teamwork and desire. It's now on to the next round of the cup
