Old Bristolians run in 12 tries to secure top spot in Gloucester Premier and gain an historic first-ever promotion to Western Counties North

On a glorious day for rugby, OBs comfortably beat bottom of the table Longlevens at Failand to guarantee top spot in Gloucester Premier and therefore secure promotion next year. With two games to go, only Drybrook can finish on equal league points with OBs, (should Drybrook get maximum points per game, and OBs fail to gain a single point), yet OBs would remain top due to number of games won.

It was always going to be tough for Longlevens, who have only won once this year against Bristol Saracens, and within the first ten minutes OBs had set the tone for the afternoon with two well taken tries.

Winger Steve Forster showed excellent pace to open the scoring and fellow winger Garth Hannaford soon followed for his fifth of the season.

Prop James Adams then finished off a slick line out move for his first try of the season, fellow prop Nick Cussen providing the final pass.

Centre Tom Westray continued his excellent form, running in his first of three tries for the afternoon, securing the try bonus point in the process.

Jack Price and scrum half Joel Keen both scored before half time, with Jack kicking four conversions and Joel converting his own try.

OBs scored six second half tries, Nick Cussen starting the scoring, closely followed by Tom Westray scoring his second.

Jack Price then scored his second of the day, as did Nick Cussen.

Longlevens fought back with two well taken converted tries as the game opened up.

OBs finished with two further tries. Tom Westray completing his hat trick and replacement James Pritchard going over with the last play of the game. Jack Price finished the day with a personal haul of 26 points.

OBs have two league games left, away against Widden Old Boys this Saturday before the final game of the season away at Old Colstonians on the 14th April.

On Thursday 5th April, OBs take on Southmead in the Charles Saunders Food Services Bristol Combination Cup Vase Final at Clifton Rugby Club, kick off is expected to be 1930.
