U13s pull together for away win at Thornbury
By Tony Rolle
Lacking numbers but full of spirit bring first win of the season for U13s
An increasing injury roster meant that the team was short on numbers, but that was very quickly forgotten about at kick off. A sunny morning in Thornbury brought out the best in the players, who started strongly with some good passing and support play, and they were quickly rewarded with a well-worked try from Alec Errington, brushing off a try-line challenge from a much larger opponent. Thornbury responded well and held us off in a well-matched battle during the rest of the first half.
With the benefit of the slope in the second half, the boys stretched their lead with another team effort and Jack Hobbs outpacing several players to score the first of his two tries. Thornbury replied with two tries in fairly quick succession, but sound defensive work proved decisive and the boys held them off until the final whistle, in what proved to be a great spirited thriller from both teams.
