Old Bristolian Ladies v Chipping Sodbury Ladies
By Cat Rees
Old Bristolian Ladies welcomed Chipping Sodbury Ladies to Failand in what was a close match despite the final score. It was an energy zapping game of defence for both sides in the windy conditions.
The first half saw OBs ladies face an onslaught of attack from the first whistle. There were a number of try saving tackles, Chipping Sodbury eventually were the first to score with an unconverted try. OBs reorganised and went on the attack, however a number of handling errors allowed Chipping Sodbury to score with another unconverted try. OBs went on the attack, with some great running and support from the backs, allowing inside centre Megan Plane to score from a penalty move just before half time.
The second half was much the same, with some great defensive play and less convincing attack. Chipping Sodbury worked hard to get around the OBs defence as they were unable to get through, scoring a try in each corner, one of which was converted. OBs had a larger spell of attacking ball between the two visitor tries, with a searing run by full back Amalia Westerlund only to be stopped in the Chipping Sodbury 22 by her opposite number. The OBs Ladies re-grouped allowing the forwards to have a passage of great support play allowing prop Jenny Rossdale to score in the corner. The final minutes of the game saw Chipping Sodbury camp in OBs 22, but the defence held out until the last whistle. The final score was 10-22 to the visitors.
Despite a loss, there were several positives OBs can take from the game. Some excellent tackles, Jenny Rossdale, Holly Washington, Sophia Henry and Caitlin Evans to mention a few. In addition some great attacking runs including Jenny Rossdale, Amalia Westerlund, Megan Plane, Sophia Henry and Vicky Stevens. Forward of the match went to Sophia Henry and Simone Rose, whilst back of the match went to Holly Washington. There was an additional award for Ilijana Parojcic for her first game for OBs.
OBs Ladies now have a few weeks to recover, train and build on the successes from this game before their next game away at North Bristol on 3rd Feb.
