Four try bonus point in horrendous conditions

The 1st Xv managed to do the double over Bristol Harlequins for the first time in a number of seasons. In similar conditions to the first game with driving rain and strong winds OB's started well scoring via hooker Whiteman under the sticks. The try cam from an excellent driving line out that produced quick ball. No 8 Wayne Cochran took the ball to the line and popped Hooker Whiteman through a hole in the defence to score with his first touch. Davis converted.

Conditions quickly deteriorated. The wind caused most of the game to take place on the far side of the pitch much to the annoyance of large crowd hunkered down in the shelter of the near touchline.

The B's forwards appeared to have the upper hand in the driving mauls but scrum half Green was unable to release the backs as his pass was continually held up in the wind. As a result it was up your jumper time and after 25 minutes the pressure told and hooker Jon Whitman crashed over after a series of close drives to the line.

At half time injuries to Ross Campbell and Wayne Cockram meant a reshuffle up front with Tim Colton & Pete Fison replacing them. The reorganisation led a failure at times in the OB's line out which had provided so much good ball in the first half. However, quality defending meant that despite an increase in possession Quins could not break OB's down. A series of penalties at the tackle area led to a Quins lineout 5m's out from the home try line. Sadly for them Quins knocked on a OB's ounce on the advantage driving play back up field to just outside the Quins 22. The ball was pushed wide to Simon Hunt who broke one tackle and then went on his trademark angled run back towards the posts to score. Davis converted.

The final try came as a result of a loose kick from Quin's. Andy Flower, who had hardly touched the ball all game took a high steeling kick on the left wing. He slipped the ball to Hunt who went round the cover defence carrying the ball 40m's before slipping it inside to Rory Davis who went in under the posts. Davis converted.

This bonus point win puts us level on points with Stroud but we remain 5th on points difference.
