Comprehensive display sees 52:5 win over Yatton. Bristol Saracens await in the final in Thursday May 5th @ Clifton 7.30pm

A fantastic all-round performance last night saw the 1st Xv brush aside Somerset Premier Champions Yatton.

Yatton who defeated WCN opponents in the quarter final came into this game having gained automatic promotion last weekend. Coached by another former England 7's player, and team mate of Hunty, Rob Thirlby we knew that Yetton played a running game. Played in near perfect conditions, with the exception of a stiff breeze blowing down the pitch, this was always going to be an open game.

OB's started with the wind at their backs and from the outset pinned Yatton in their own 22m Adventurous play from them saw them maintain possession through 6 or 7 phases attempting to run the ball out. The OBs defence in this area typified the performance all night. Rock Solid.

As soon as the ball was coughed up the forwards piled on the pressure. Good clean scrum ball saw Tom Bury attack from 10 only to pass back inside to Jon Whiteman who crashed over. Jack Price converted.

From the KO Yatton were pinned back into the 22m area and again good close work from the forwards saw Whiteman art the back of a driving maul with 5ms to go and Yatton defenders bound in he broke infield to touch down for his second. Again Price converted.

Tom Gould at blindside was revelling in theses conditions and made two great breaks to once again pin the opponents in their own half. Tom Bury picked up the 3rd try. A line out just inside halfway saw a clean catch from Ross Campbell, a 10 m driving maul set the backs free. Bury broke from outside half showed his pace by outstripping the fullback into the corner.

A sweeping move with great handling from forwards and backs saw wing Barney Nelson score out on the right, Price converted. 26:0 a great first half.

Turning round the stiff wind that had been at our backs dropped as the sun went down.

Te first try of the half was a peach. A sweeping attacking move from left to right saw Barney get outside his man. A pass back inside to blindside winger Andy Flower, saw swift hands to put Hunty away.

With Yatton suffering a number of injuries their back line began to struggle. Barney scored another following a clean break by Hunty. Hunt then jinked his way past three players to score before Jack Price bust up the middle to score on the right. Jack converted all three.

With Saturdays final league game in mind OBs rang the changes and Yetton gained a consolation score, not before 5 minutes of characterful defence on our own line in an attempt to nil them.

Final score 52:5. Bring on the Saras.
